Fancy getting your hands on some cheap food? All that yummy, perfectly edible food that stores and restaurants have to throw out at the end of the day can be yours for a quarter of the price, with the use of Food Waste Apps.
1.9 million tonnes of food each year is wasted in the UK, it has a harmful effect on the environment and is responsible for 8% of the global greenhouse gas emissions! You can become a food waste warrior, save money, and help the environment.
How To Get Cheap Food
What is a Food Waste APP
Food Waste Apps are a great way to fight food waste, for food outlets to make some profit from the food they would have otherwise had to throw away, and a fantastic way to reduce food waste and get you cost price food in return.
TIP: Restaurant pickups tend to be later in the evening when they would be closing, usually around 9pm and you'll get better value/more for your money at local businesses rather than chains.
What Food Will I Get
You won’t know exactly what you will get until you pick it up at the restaurant. There are Cafes, coffee shops, bakeries, juice bars, and restaurants on the app so you can narrow it down slightly, but it will depend on what they have leftover at the end of the day.
The above image is from Ashleigh's local Cookie & Spoon, she picked it up at close of business (4pm) for just £3.09. The goodies were absolutely delicious and worth around £12.
Another example I used this week was for Costa Coffee. I paid £3 for a £10 voucher, which I was told to use between 6:30-7:30pm at my local store. I was allowed to pick £10 worth of items that they had leftover - I had a sandwich, salad bowl, and a blueberry muffin, which came to just over £10 (but they were fine).
What Areas Does the App Cover
The whole of the UK, with London leading the way for this app right now. You're much more likely to find a larger amount of food outlets in larger cities, rather than rural areas at the moment, but as the concept is gaining traction, many more local restaurants and cafes have started signing up to the platform and it's predicted to get HUGE by the end of the year.

It's no secret that buying food and groceries has got really expensive over the last few years - most of my spare weekly budget goes on topping up on the already expensive food shop I do.
Which is why I'm always on the look out for the cheapest online supermarkets in 2024 as well as clever ways to save money on groceries. If you can save few £££s and combine the savings with the environmental factor, you have to agree this is a fantastic concept. I for one hope it hits off!
