Spare Change Challenge

Millions of people take part in the 'Spare Change' Savings Challenge every year, the idea's straightforward, and makes it easy to save by simply collecting loose change. Your spare change isn't doing much good in the bottom of a drawer floating around in your car - so put it to good use.

Loose Change Challenege

We're always on the lookout for ways to save money – but it's not always easy to find a savings method that works for you, one of the most popular methods our community likes to participate in is the Loose Change challenge.

How to Complete the Spare Change Challenge

Firstly, print off our Free Printable sheet to mark off your savings each week and keep a running total of your haul. Then every time you break into a note, put the change into a savings pot.

You will be surprised by how much it adds up to over 52 weeks.

Ways to Save

There are some really unique ways to get your hands on change, here's how...

The Hunt - On day one we search everywhere for loose change to start off our pot.  The car, old bags, drawers, the back of the sofa - everywhere!

Penny Picking - We make a habit of picking up every single penny we find on the floor.

Automated Change Savings - Automatic savings bots such as Monzo (who are big advocates of the challenge) allow you to automatically transfer increasing amounts using the free web service IFTTT, which stands for "If This Then That". This option can make the challenge relatively hassle-free.

Tips for The Spare Change Challenge

Keep Your Challenge in Sight

Put your plan somewhere you will see it daily, so it's always to hand and you always have a reminder of what you're working towards.  This is why I find the print outs so handy.

Choose the Best Saving Option for you

Some people like to save in a jar and others open a bank account specifically for their savings.  For this particular Money Saving Challenge, both is best as you have two saving streams, one for cash and one for card payments.
