Vale Resort, Hensol, Wales Review

Reason for Stay

I was gifted a spa experience voucher for my 40th birthday from my parents. I went with my partner for a lovely child free break.

When we stayed

We visited late September and opted to upgrade to a balcony room as it was due to be a sunny day, unfortunately, our balcony was slap bang in front of the largest trees known to man, so we had absolutely no sun, this was slightly disappointing.

Cost of Stay

Our stay cost £350 and it included an overnight stay, 1 x 50 minute spa treatment, full use of facilities, a spa lunch, a 3 course evening meal, and breakfast - all for two people.

What were the Highlights?

Golf Course and driving range - My partner was gutted he didn't bring a club, the golf course looks incredible.

Spa - Guests get full use of the spa facilities which include the pool, sauna, steam room, and Jacuzzi.

Service once at the hotel - Our room didn't have a fridge, so I called down to reception and one was delivered within 10 minutes.

The Food - Our three course meal was faultless and breakfast was also exceptional.

The Hotel - It's gorgeous, in a fab location, and spotlessly clean.

The Rooms - Tea/coffee making facilities, TV, large bath and shower, toiletries, great views of the gold course and a huge comfy bed.

What were the Downsides?

Reception - This was a huge downside to me and something that will put me off paying that much for this hotel again. Reception does not answer the phones EVER! You will only get a response via email and that can take up to 72 hours which I find unacceptable. We wanted to bok golf the day before and were unable. I tried for two days straight to ring originally when trying to book, then again when trying to book golf before our stay. Both times gave up and used email.

Breakfast - No tinned tomatoes, why does nowhere do them?

Spa Treatment Availability - Very fully booked so we would have had to wait until 6pm to use the one we had in with our voucher which was way too late in the evening for us.  We ended up not having one but they gave us the balcony room upgrade and £90 room credit so we were happy.

Balcony View - Ours was shaded by huge trees, such a shame as it was a glorious day.

What are the Food and Drink facilities like at Vale Resort?

There is a pretty decent room service menu available, but there is a £5 service charge per use.

There are two restaurants available, one offering bar food and the other offering a fine dining experience. We used the latter and had an absolutely stunning 3 course evening meal (which was included in our spa package)

There is also a small cafe in the spa, offering light refreshments.

Can I Save Money on My Booking at Vale Resort?

In a word, no! It's an expensive hotel and they don't do deals or advertise on any other websites where you can get reductions.

They do offer in-house experience days, but they are pricey!

There's currently no loyalty program available.
