How does Cashback Work?

Simply sign up for a free account (avoid any that require payment) with any cashback site, log-in and then click on the product you’re interested in or website you’re going to purchase from. When you make a transaction a cookie is stored and it’s recorded through the site.

So every time you buy something or sign up for something that qualifies, you will get paid cash for doing so.

This was my earnings for my first year of joining topcashback, which includes my online spending plus referrals.

I usually post my referral link to my friends when they have sign up bonus’ like the one in the picture, where it was £20 for me, and my sign up also got £5 for joining.

Ways to Increase Cashback

Refer a Friend

All cashback sites pay bonuses when you get a friend to sign up for their site. Yet you usually only get the bonus if a friend starts earning cashback themselves. Ensure you refer your friend through the correct link via the website.

You will get your own referral link in your account and you can earn as much as £15 for every friend that joins up via your link. Topcashback pays £7.50 per sign up, Quidco pays you £5 and your friend £5.

Use a Cashback Credit Card

You can also earn up to 5% extra every time you spend by using a cashback credit card such as Amex Platinum (The two top paying cards are from American Express, which both require a household income of £30,000 to get) – Although always ensure you pay it off in full so you’re not charged interest.

There is no conflict between cashback sites and cashback cards as when you spend money, whoever it is spent with, the cashback credit card gives you some of it back.

Compare Services

Quidco has its own comparison site and any products you purchase via there will earn you cashback.

Topcashback doesn’t have its own, although you can go to most of the major comparison sites through them and earn Cashback in the same way.

Payout Bonus’

You can unlock a payout bonus of up to 20% with selected partners. Quidco and Topcashback will top-up your earnings with a nice bonus when you withdraw your cashback as an e-gift card for one of their selected partners.

Check Your Bank Account

Most major banks now offer cashback, which you can use alongside any of the above sites to earn DOUBLE BUBBLE!

You need to activate each merchant from your bank account, so make sure you check and activate often so that you don’t forget when making purchases.

Always activate the ones you think you might not use as well because you never know when you might find a deal.

Tips for Making The Most Of Cashback

Clear your cookies

If you have clicked through to several different sites that collect cookies, which will often include the product site itself, through a comparison site, this site, or another cashback site.

It may not track unless you clear your computer’s cookies first.

Ensure you’ve found the right product

It’s easy to be seduced by £50 cashback for signing up to an insurance provider or credit card, or an extra 5% discount when shopping,

But always check if you can’t find the same product for cheaper elsewhere.

Never rely on the cash

Cashback sites only pay you if they get the money from the retailers or product providers, but there are often disputes, so sometimes they’re not paid.

There are often problems with tracking, which can be annoying. Of course most of the time it’s fine, but it’s why cashback should be seen as a useful added extra, not a wage.
