Save Cash at Theme Parks in the UK

Theme parks don't come cheap, once you add up the cost of admission tickets, parking, petrol, meals, drinks, snacks, and souvenirs, you can easily spend up to £100 per person!  But you don't need to break the bank if you're planning a family trip.

When going on days out such as theme parks and zoos, there are a few ways you can make the day a little cheaper, here are the best...

1 - Buy Your Tickets in Advance

It's always cheaper to buy tickets online than at the gate. You need to purchase the tickets between 1 and 5 days in advance, so make sure you check the website at least a week prior to see their requirements. You do take a slight risk buying in advance because if for some reason you can't go, you won't get your money back - so bear that in mind.

2 - Go in a Group

You could also try getting a group of friends or family to join you, as a lot of places offer group discounts of up to 30% for groups of 10 or more.

3 - Take your own Food

Food is very expensive at theme parks so it's a really good idea to take a picnic. Also, take enough drinks and snacks to last you the day as this is another expense that adds up.

4 - Find 241 Vouchers

Before you pay for your tickets, always check to see if there's a voucher code available. Merlin Entertainments which owns the larger attractions such as Alton Towers and Legoland are currently offering 'adults go free' vouchers which you can find on promotional packs of Cadbury and Kellogs.  This offer has been ongoing for a few years now and shows no sign of being pulled.

5 - Use Your Rewards

Find out what deals you can get with your Nectar Points or your Tesco Clubcard points – you can save a fortune on a family day out to a place like Chessington World of Adventures in return for a relatively small amount of reward points. You get 2 - 3 times the amount when you redeem for days out, so every £1 in points you have will get you £2 - £3 towards your trip.

6 - Get Cashback

Cashback is a great way to earn some money back on your online spending, especially when making big purchases such as this. Topcashback and Quidco have all the major players on board and both offer between 3% & 5% back on most of the UKs top attractions.

7 - Free Entry

Under 3s go free in almost all of the UKs top theme parks and attractions - So if you're planning a trip around their birthday, try to take it before they hit 3, although they have never asked for ID on my twins so I intend on saying they're 3 for as long as I can get away with it.

8 - Follow Them on Social Media

Find and Follow the park’s Facebook, Instagram or Twitter accounts, which will occasionally dish out special promotions to fans and followers.

9 - Sign Up for Emails

Signing up to the parks email list is a great way to be notified whenever there's a promotion running or even a nice voucher code.

10 - Visit Off-Peak

Check out the opening times and prices before you book. You can often save money going during off-peak times such as on weekdays and out of the summer holidays.
